John Makepeace works closely with the client to define their needs and preferences. In addition, the location and character of the space, functional issues and the nature of the chosen materials all feed into the design.

Through experiment, sketching , model-making and mock-ups, a design concept is developed for presentation and discussion.

When this has been approved, the making is planned; full size drawings enable the timber to be selected and prepared. The craftsmen then embark on the painstaking stages of making in close liaison with the designer. Clients are welcome to visit Dorset to see work in progress.

The role of the client as patron is vital to the creation of an original work of art for their own enjoyment, and, for future generations.
