John Makepeace Furniture
'My aim as a designer is to create more eloquent concepts for furniture. The objective is to achieve lighter, stronger and more sculptural forms better suited to their function and more expressive of each commission. Whereas 'modern' design has followed the Bauhaus principle of "expressing the new machine age" my concern is to give priority to human needs and aspirations whilst embracing the new ecological imperatives.
By using the wonderful range of indigenous timbers grown in Britain, I try to encourage excellent silviculture and a diverse woodland ecology. This site features images of earlier commissions which may prompt ideas you would like to discuss.'
