The 'Obelisk' chest is a unique chest of drawers skillfully designed by John Makepeace. Crafted from English yew and Lebanon cedar, it features a tapering column of drawers that rises gracefully to a sculpted mountain-scape top, blending natural elegance with practical design. This unique chest of drawers not only serves as a functional storage solution but also as a stunning piece of bespoke furniture that enhances any living space with its artistic charm and craftsmanship.
The column of drawers rises from the ground to a height of 125 cms; its wider base giving the feeling of being securely grounded. This form echos that of trees, which when squared probably provided the earliest obelisks. The surfaces are sculpted in response to the grain and accentuates the sensuous texture of the English yew; with the high spots in the undulations creating vertical crevices, creating handles for opening cedar lines drawers.
